We’re delighted to welcome Hugh Thomas as a Creative Director.

Hugh joins the agency in a permanent role having spent the past five years partnering with numerous comms agencies – including Smarts – and in-house teams on a freelance basis.

He began his career at Freuds, before joining Brazen PR in Manchester, where he rose to Account Director and creative lead. He was hired by W Communications as a Creative in 2019, before setting up his own freelance offer,

Hugh’s experience spans creative campaigns, social media, influencer marketing, brand strategy and content production for brands including Samsung, Unilever, AB InBev, Merlin Entertainments, Manchester United, National Football Museum, Lime and Chicago Town.

Notable campaigns include launching pubs for hedgehogs for Camden Town Brewery; creating a shot-by-shot remake of Levi’s Laundrette advert (only this time featuring Sean Williamson) for laundry care brand Dr. Beckmann; and releasing a silent Christmas single for The Children’s Society.

He has been the recipient of the PRCA Rising Star Award and was part of the inaugural PR Week creative mentoring intake.

Hugh will be based in Smarts’ London office, leading creativity across some of our flagship accounts, such as British Gas, as well as helping to power new business growth.

Hugh will report to our Group Head of Creative & Strategy, Colin Corbridge, and both Hugh and Colin spoke to PR Week about the move earlier this week. Check that out here.
