Every week PR Week puts burning questions to some of the industry’s finest minds, and once again we’ve been lucky enough to see our experts take the hot seat.
This week, our Brand Futures Director, Nat Moores, was asked for her top tips for a job interview. Here’s what she had to say:
“One of the biggest things we need right now is access to all corners of culture. Skills can be taught, experience can be gained, but what’s really valuable is curiosity, observation, texture, and being interested in things.
So don’t be nervous about the things you might be asked that you don’t know, think about all the weird and wonderful things you’re interested in and be excited to talk about that. Something the interviewer might not have picked up on. Even better, pick out one of their clients and discuss why it might be interesting for them.
If agencies want ideas to truly land in culture for clients, they need people who belong in culture, not conference rooms. And the speed and volume of the internet mean it’s not only impossible to keep up with everything, but it’s more important than ever to be able to filter out the noise and focus on what audiences really care about.
At least that’s how I justify the amount of time I’ve spent watching a guy on TikTok singing Kendrick Lamar songs in the style of Hugh Jackman from Les Mis. Culture.“
